More About Parent Coaching with Dr. Lisa:
Parent Coaching is a confidential, solutions-focused, parenting support to boost the happiness and resiliency of your family. As your Parent-Coach, I will introduce you to creative solution-focused coaching and problem-solving techniques, positive discipline, and inspired parenting approaches based on my 20+ years combined experience as a parent, child/family/mental health therapist, parenting coach, and family life educator.
All parent coaching is done by phone, so you can save money and time whilst gaining the skills necessary to parent effectively and successfully. During the first few sessions, I will ask you about the issues for which you are seeking Parent Coaching. Together we will establish goals for the coaching. After each session, I will provide a summary of the session, complete with parenting tools and exercises, to help you attain your goals.
Depending on your situation, Parent Coaching may involve relatively few sessions (1-10 sessions), or it may last longer. Oftentimes, my clients will book booster sessions once a year to review their progress and renew their parenting goals as their children grow.
Parent Coaching can provide powerful tools for growth, understanding, increased connection, and positive-change in the parent-child relationship—one of the most important and complex relationships of our lives.
As a Parent-Coach, I focus specifically on parenting issues. Our work together will focus on improving your parenting skills, creating positive relationships between yourself, your partner (or ex-partner), and your child/ren. Our aim will often be to improve discipline and increase your child's personal responsibility and resiliency--all whilst ensuring your family is a loving and supportive place for your child/ren and yourself to thrive!
Parent Coaching Issues I am trained and experienced to work with:
What Parent Coaching is NOT?
Parent Coaching is not to be confused with mental health counseling, or any type of psychological therapy. Though I am experienced and trained to work with these issues, I am not currently offering mental health counseling services.
If mental health counseling issues arise, I will make sure to offer you a recommended referral for mental health counseling. A Parent-Coach is not a counselor in that the focus is not on the problem, but on the solution.
Parents choose Parent Coaching over Counseling when deeper therapeutic issues are not a concern. Parent Coaching encourages an environment of mutual respect and family harmony—the foundation for nurturing independent, confident, resilient, and self-disciplined children.
